In order for you to make a good steak, you have to choose the right oil that will have a good burning point, so the meat will be well cooked. The juiciness that the steak provides needs to be mixed all together with the oil and the other ingredients that will be added.

1. Peanut oil

Peanut Oil

One of the oils that are recommended for cooking steak is peanut oil. It is made from the seed or the nut from a peanut plant. What is important to note is that it’s very healthy and is used to prevent heart diseases and cancer.

It is an oil that has a high smoking point which is perfect for cooking steak. It has a heat point between 231 to 246 degrees celsius which is ideal for high heat cooking.

You should cook for about 7 minutes and flip the steak, then cook for an additional 4 minutes for a nice crust, medium-rare steak. To add a nice touch to it at the end you can leave the steak to rest in a foil for an additional 5 minutes so it can rest.

2. Canola oil

Canola Oil

Canola oil is made of rapeseed, a flowering plant that has a good amount of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. It is a type of oil that has a very high smoking point which means that it is good for cooking on high heat. It’s a good way to use it for cooking steak as well.

Put 2 tablespoons of canola oil in the pan and 1 tablespoon of butter. Put the steak on the pan and reduce to medium heat. Cook each side for 4- 6 minutes and then flip. The result will be a very delicious and tasty steak.

3. Extra light olive oil

This type of olive oil is pale and mild but ultra-refined. It has a stronger heating point than the regular or the extra virgin olive oil. Thus, it’s a better option to choose when making steak.

It has a neutral taste and it is suitable for baking and other types of cooking. This is a type of oil that has 320 to 350 degrees burning heat.

4. Olive oil

If you are using it to make stakes, rub both sides of the steak with olive oil. It is ideal for grilling. The steak should sear for 4-6 minutes rotating it. Use this type of oil if you want to make rare or medium-rare steak. Turn up the heat and finish off the cooking.

5. Avocado oil

One of the best choices is avocado oil which has a very high smoking point. You can use it to make delicious meals on higher heat and it is especially good for stir-frys.

It does not have much flavor so it won’t affect the taste of your meal The smoking point goes up to 520 degrees and it is the only oil that has omega 3 in its texture.

6. Grape seed oil

Our latest pick is the grapeseed oil with a high smoking point. It is usually used in salads, salad dressing, and mayonnaise because of its clean, light taste, and high polyunsaturated fat content.

Use it for making steaks just as you’ll preheat the oven and then add the oil. Put the steak and cook each side for 4 mins. This way you’ll get the perfect steaks.

  • Fresh garlic
  • Fresh thyme
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil

Instructions:

  • You have to completely thaw the steaks if they were previously frozen. Leave them outside the fridge and let them sit there for at least 20 min. If not fresh ones are always welcomed.
  • Then, put the pan over medium heat and let it heat up. In the meantime season the steaks with salt, pepper and rub the buttons of the steaks as well. Make sure that the excess salt of the meat falls on the table.
  • Put 1-2 tablespoons of olive oil in the pan and let it sear. Place the steaks down slowly.
  • You can add some fresh garlic, thyme or add an additional tablespoon of olive oil. Make sure to turn the steaks every minute and keep an eye on them.
  • Further, you can add 2 tablespoons of butter into the hot pan and add the steaks onto the melted butter.
  • Another piece of advice that chef Gordon adds is that you should always check the tenderness by equating the tenderness if your palm is rare, the top of the wrist is medium and bellow is done.
  • Make the tenderness as you please and brush the steaks with garlic to add additional flavor.
  • After all, it’s done and you have the desired tenderness, leave the steaks to rest.

The whole process usually takes 20 minutes to prepare and extra 10 minutes for cooking. All in all 30 minutes is more than enough.
