Chicken wings are some of the most loved comfort foods worldwide.
However, if you want to enjoy your favorite dish, you might want to consider baking your wings rather than frying them. Well-baked chicken wings shouldn’t take more than 40 minutes at 400 degrees F.
This will offer you the tender yet crispy texture you love and with a significantly less amount of fat. The following table can help you navigate through the cooking process.
Baking Temperature and Time of Chicken Wings
Temperature | Time |

400 degrees F | 40 minutes |
375 degrees F | 50 minutes |

How Long Does it Take for Wings to Cook at 400 Degrees F?
The ideal time to bake your chicken wings at 400 degrees F is 40 minutes. This is also easy to remember so you shouldn’t find it difficult at all to make a mental note.
This will provide well-cooked, tender chicken wings but if you want crispy crust on them you can leave them in the warm oven for about 30 minutes more.
We don’t recommend cooking your chicken wings longer than 40 minutes to try and get them crispy. What you will achieve by doing that is getting them burned.
How Long Does Chicken Take to Cook at 400 Degrees F?
You will notice that chicken breast cooks a bit faster in the oven compared to chicken wings.
It can take between 25 minutes and 40 minutes, depending on the thickness of the breast. Thinner slices of chicken breast will cook faster in the oven compared to thicker ones.
When you are cooking chicken breast is important to make sure you don’t cook it until it gets dry. You want it tender and juicy at the end of your recipe!
Is it Better to Bake Chicken at 350 Degrees F or 400 Degrees F?
When you establish the cooking temperature, you want to stick to a level that allows the chicken to get the brownish shade you want without getting dry.
Your chicken should be cooked all the way through as well, which is difficult to happen at 350 degrees F. Therefore, we suggest cooking your chicken at 400 degrees F to make sure it is cooked all the way through and you get the perfect tenderness and crispy crust.
If you decide to cook your chicken at 350 degrees F, make sure you allow it 20 minutes more to get done the way you like it.
How Long to Bake Marinated Chicken Wings at 400 Degrees F?
If you want to bake marinated chicken wings at 400 degrees F, you will be glad to know that they get done a bit faster as well.
You will have to bake them for about 15 minutes, covered with a foil, and then bake them for another 15 minutes without the foil.
When you remove the foil, try not to get the wings out of the oven because you still want them to be exposed to constant heat.
The marinate sauce should cover the wings for a better taste but also for a faster cooking process. Place your marinated wings in an oven-safe container and cover it with the sauce of your choice until you can’t see the surface of the wings.
Then cover the container with a cooking foil or baking paper and give it 15 minutes to cook in a preheated oven. Remove the foil and let it cook for 15 minutes more at the same temperature.
How Long to Cook Chicken Wings in Oven at 180?
We don’t recommend baking the chicken wings at a low temperature such as 180 degrees F as they will take longer to get done and you might have to check on them several times to make sure you get the result you aim for to impress your guests.
To get tasty, tender chicken wings at a temperature of 180 degrees F should take between one hour and 1.5 hours. Make sure to check on them every 30 minutes just to be sure that they get cooked on the inside and not only on the outside.
Sometimes, the brown appearance of your wings can trick you into thinking they are done when the meat might be actually raw close to the bone.
How Long to Cook Chicken Wings in Oven Celsius?
Many ovens are set in Celsius rather than Fahrenheit, which might seem like a problem at first sight but it is really not.
All you have to do if you are using a Celsius oven is set it to 205 degrees C (400 degrees F) and allow it to preheat before you bake your chicken wings.
If you want to use other temperatures to bake chicken wings just try 190 degrees Celsius (375 degrees F) or 176 degrees C (350 degrees F). If you want to bake chicken wings at 180 degrees F, you will need to set your oven at 82 degrees C.
How Long to Bake Chicken Wings at 450?
If you want to get your chicken wings done fast, you might have to preheat your oven to 450 degrees F. This temperature will get your chicken wings done in about 25 minutes.
However, if you want a crispy crust on them, allow them another 30 minutes to stay in the warm oven, once you turned the heat off.
Never cook chicken wings more time hoping to get them crispier because you will also get them burned. Letting the wings sit in a warm oven is not risky as they will not get burned since they are not exposed to a heat source.
They will get tender and crispy during this time. And you will be able to enjoy them right out of the oven since they get cooler faster without getting too cold to serve.
Baked Chicken Wings Recipe
If you never made baked chicken wings, but you want to impress your loved ones with this dish, here’s a quick and easy recipe for you.
Ingredients:
- 2-3 pounds of chicken wings
- 2 tablespoons of butter
- 2 tablespoons of salt
- Half teaspoon of black pepper
- 1 teaspoon of garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon of paprika
Instructions:
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. While the oven is heating up, toss the chicken wings in a bowl, along with butter.
Arrange the chicken wings on a tray that you cover with baking paper. Make sure to arrange the wings in one layer so they get baked evenly. Add the salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder on top of the wings before you place them in the oven.
Bake the wings for about 40 minutes in the preheated oven.
We suggest turning the heat off after 40 minutes. Then, allow the wings to sit in the oven for 30 minutes more. By doing so, you will give them time to get crispy and absorb the seasonings at a slower pace.
Bonus Tip for Marinated Chicken Wings
If you want to make marinated chicken wings, make your sauce and add it on top of the wings before you put them in the oven.
You will have to use a deeper container for marinated wings so there is enough space to cover them with a sauce of your choice. Make sure the container you use is oven friendly and you can manage it easily.
Also, for such a recipe you can maintain the 400 degrees F temperature. But your wings might be done in as fast as 30 minutes.
Cover your marinated chicken wings container with aluminum foil for the first 15 minutes of the cooking time. Remove the foil and have them bake for another 15 minutes. You will love the end result!
Serve the wings with a side dish and a sauce of your choice. We recommend chicken wings with a side of fries and a fresh salad.
You can also serve them plain as a snack or next to your favorite soup or stew. Chicken wings taste delicious with a cheese sauce or spicy ketchup as well.
Bon Appetite!
If chicken wings are some of your favorite recipes, there is no reason why you will not be able to enjoy them in the comfort of your house.
You can cook them in any kind of oven by following the temperatures suggested above. You can also get creative with the recipe by using the seasonings you prefer.
The one aspect you need to pay attention to is not burning your chicken wings. Make sure they are cooked all the way through before you take them out of the oven.
Serve the chicken wings with any other dish you like as they can be very versatile!
